Forensic Toxicology
Ian has been involved in forensic science education for 30 years, culminating in his recent book Forensic Science – the Science Behind the Truth. He has been the expert witness in several cases internationally.
Ian’s broad understanding of the science of toxicology, particularly mechanistic toxicology, gives him the tools necessary to unravel the complexities of a poisoning case and the confidence to stand cross examination in court. For example, he uncovered the effects of dialysis on the blood levels of a poison which led to a patient’s death. This finding was crucial in the court case.

Ian has advised solicitors on poisoning cases, prepared Evidence in Chief, and been the expert witness in cases heard at the Waitangi Tribunal, Chicago Court, USA, and before the NZ Racing Integrity Board.
